JVT Collection Debuts at Las Vegas World Market

P1010183

I’ve been missing in action here in blogland but I have a good excuse. I was working day and night to get ready for the official launch of The Jackie Von Tobel Collection, my new line of fabrics and pillows, at the Las Vegas World Market.

My collection will be available year round in the Postcards Home Showroom in building A suite 119. Craig and Donna the co-owners of the beautiful showroom have been absolutely wonderful and helped me get everything ready for the debut. Thanks guys!

We had a great launch party and I was thrilled to have some great friends, blogging buddies and fellow designers from all over the country attend.

We introduced some new patterns and colorways including the zebra stripe in coffee and the new Gypsy Flower in coffee.

Here are a few patterns in our cotton candy colorway.

I was floored to see Suzanne Kasler stroll into the showroom and had a nice chat with her. She is definitely one of my favorite designers and such a gracious lady.

Ronda Carmen and her husband made it to my launch party along with Brad Ford and the great gals from Editor at Large, Julia Noran and Sophie Donalson.

My friend and fellow blogger Tobi Fairley came by with her lovely mother.

I also had the pleasure of speaking on a panel discussion on New Media at market with Tobi, Brad, and Ronda. It was moderated by Julia Noran and Sophie Donalson of Editor at Large.

It was a fun panel with loads of tips on how to make social media work to promote and grow your business.

We had a great group in attendance and I had the opportunity to meet a reader of my blog and her sister, in town all the way from the Virgin Islands!

If you are in Las Vegas I hope you will stop by the fabulous World Market Center and visit my showroom. We’d love to see you!

Vicente Wolf & Tobi Fairley

Tobi Fairley, Debbie Baxter, & Myself

I'm having a great week ! I was able to meet up with my fellow design blogger Tobi Fairley who was in town for a conference along with her friend and fellow designer Debbie Baxter. We had a great visit, talked a bit about blogging, our careers, and the state of the industry. Turns out Tobi did her internship here at Yates Silverman a local firm. I had no idea she had lived in Vegas! She is as charming in person as she appears to be on her blog and I am so happy for the way her career is taking off. I'm sure we will see her become a powerful force in our industry.

Me & Vicente Wolf

Monday was the kick off of the fall furniture market at The Las Vegas World Market Center. This year they will be honoring another designer / blogger, the fabulous Vicente Wolf. I was thrilled to be able to meet him at a reception hosted by the Las Vegas ASID and the LVWMC . He is larger than life and just as charming and I admire his candid, real life posts about the design world. He speaks about common issues and obstacles that all designers face and shows that even the elite among our ranks share the same concerns that we do. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him and admire his comitment to educating and informing young designers about the realities of our industry. He will be honored Wednesday night as an Icon of Design; certainly an award he rightly deserves.

Vicente & His Assistant

I also had the great pleasure of meeting his charming assistant who's name - shame on me -I cannot find in my notes. Among her other duties she monitors Vicente's blog.

Thankfully my week of meeting friends and famous designers is just getting started. Wednesday I will be attending a few events where I am going to be meeeting:

Charlotte Moss
Diamond & Baratta
David Easton
Jamie Drake
Nina Campbell
& more

I promise to take pictures!!!!

New Blogs for the New Year

It's getting pretty crowded out there in cyberspace with new design blogs popping up almost daily. While they are all interesting in their own way and the product of much hard work and effort on the part of the authors, there are a few fresh bloggers who really stand out. Over the next couple of weeks I will share some of them with you.

The first of my new favorites is Tobi Fairley, written by the very talented interior designer of the same name based in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her designs are fresh and on trend but posses a timeless quality that will ensure their lasting beauty. She loves color and contrast and uses it to great effect in her work.

Fairley's own living room

All of her rooms are vibrant and full of energy. Her sense of scale and proportion is finely tuned and she plays these elements with precision.

Natural elements, geometric shapes and bold stripes seem to be a reoccurring theme in her designs.

She seems to be equally adept at traditional and modern styling and blends the two seamlessly in her interiors. I am in love with the drapery heading below - box pleats are extended into a seamed casing that forms a rod pocket casing on each beautifully tailored panel.

The sitting area in this room shows off her rug designing talents. Check out the area rugs in the rest of the pictures - stunning.

The bold geometric pattern on this rug below shows her signature use of large scale pattern.

In the picture below a smaller geometric is used on the sofa with wonderful yellow accents and yet another bold rug.

If you have a few free minutes check out her blog and be sure to scroll down to the posts of her amazing Christmas decorations in her home. Green apples never looked so good.
